Throwback to 2001, when William Wegman and Steve Martin collaborated to create the opening segment for the Identity episode from the inaugural season of Art21’s Art in the Twenty-First Century series.
In the opening segment, Martin questions the fundamental nature of identity amidst playful diversions which include card tricks, the sound of a lawnmower in the distance, ringing doorbells, and Wegman’s agile Weimaraner dogs.
Identity features artists Louise Bourgeois, Maya Lin, Kerry James Marshall, and Bruce Nauman.
