Last year, we had the first openly gay character in an animated film. That was bigger than we made it out to be. If we make animated characters show relationships that aren’t strictly hetero-normative, children will understand that it’s okay. Cartoons are where children draw comfort. Children who don’t learn about homosexuality grow into homophobic adults.
