[presses my head to the table] can we all please remember that europe is not only significantly “whiter” than the US in terms of percentage, but “white” doesn’t necessarily mean “top dog” when it comes to european countries. western europeans? yeah, if you’re from there and you’re white you’re not gonna have a problem. eastern europe? balkans?? the amount people care or empathise with these groups in western europe - where the power-houses of the EU (e.g. germany, france, UK pre-brexit) are? very little. these countries are not in the same economic positions and it doesn’t matter if they’re white if they immigrate to, say, England (because i can tell you first hand). english people treat balkans/eastern europeans like total shit.

white europe isn’t a homogeneous group of evenly powered people - diversity here means more than your race. it means pride in our individual cultures too. whether that was achieved i can’t say since i haven’t cared about eurovision for years but i’m really fed up with ignorance when it comes to the impact of nationality (and even cultural groups within said nationalities) on the european experience. i’d argue the fact that so many countries whose brunt doesn’t reach very far getting such a large audience is a celebration of diversity every year really
