How the heck are there still people out there trying to say that Amy Adams is a nobody??? Like she’s the definition of unproblematic, she’s been through so much in her life, and now she’s a 5 time academy award nominated actress, who is a part of a huge franchise and is the OG live action princess. Not to mention she was just the lead of one of the smartest alien arrival movies that I’ve ever seen, which made a bucketload of money at the box office, which is massive for a female actress over 40.
Like I get it though, you hate women who don’t punch people in superhero movies, but chill the fuck out.

Amy Adams is over 40? No seriously, when I watched American Hustle I thought she was younger than Jennifer Lawrence.

Yeah she’s 42, which is also great because Henry Cavil is only 33. Though I think that could potentially have a part in why there is so much Lois lane hate

It has everything to do with it. She doesn’t punch people in the face, she doesn’t wear a sexy costume and she’s playing a more “normal” feminist character is who is a lot more like the kind of woman you might actually know. Oh, and she’s in love with a hot white man fandom wants for themselves. Like really in love with him. Till death do us part in love with him.

This is exactly what we were talking about last week regarding Marvel’s problem with literally erasing successful female professionals over a certain age from their entire franchise and how damaging and dangerous it is to treat women this way. Marvel has a god damn problem with female AGEISM right now. They have a problem with literally taking their non-powered women who are successful professionals and finding no room for them. It’s a fucking problem and there were a bunch of women over 30 last week trying to explain to you all WHY.

What the fuck has Adams ever done to deserve how she’s treated? Unlike most of your other white Hollywood faves, she did not come from economic privilege nor from nepotism. She came from nothing. Her mother lost custody of her when she was a teen because her mother is LGBT and Judges tore LGBT families apart back then on the regular and her father couldn’t afford to support all the kids so this woman bounced around homes. She didn’t have a permanent home. She worked at Hooters at age 18 (something no one has ever let her god damn forget) so she could afford to buy a car. She didn’t go to college because there was no MONEY for that. You complain about Emma Stone and Emma Watson being cast in these musical theater roles? Amy Adams spent YEARS hoofing it as a dancer and singer in dinner theater. That was her job. It’s how she supported herself. She didn’t even become a star until she was like 32 years old which is ancient in Hollywood years. She married a regular guy and is the breadwinner for her family. She never left Darren even after she became a star. She stayed with him and was loyal to him. She spoke out about the abuse she endured under David O'Russell even as Jennifer Lawrence, her younger co-star, made excuses for him. Do you know how rare that is? She deserves every damn thing she has. Everything.

You people whine about how no one appreciates these movies. Amy Adams tried for 10 years to be Lois Lane! She tried 3 times! Superman was an escape for her growing up. Lois Lane was living the kind of life on her own that Adams didn’t always think she could lead. Do you understand this now? Adams wanted to be Lois Lane for the reason a lot of women want to be her…she was a dream realized of what a woman could be–the best in her field but not punished with being unlovable or alone–but with a man who really supported her. How do you NOT get this?

This woman has done nothing wrong and has done everything but give. She tries and tries and supports even when WB cuts valuable scenes from BvS that fully fleshed out her story. Still, she was gracious. She’s been beyond gracious to Henry Cavill. Adoring him and praising him. She was one of the FIRST to come to Gal Gadot’s defense when she was cast and everyone was bashing her body. She was one of first to defend Zack Snyder when people were taking personal shots at HIM.

We NEED women like Adams in these franchises. Women over 40 fucking deserve to see themselves in these movies and not just as one of villains or the mothers of the heroes. Women over 40 who are career professionals deserve love and affection too. They deserve to see themselves. They deserve to be adored. We need Lois Lane–the oldest god damn heroine in this genre—in this movie or, frankly, the soul is gone because WTF are they fighting for? What humanity are they inspired to protect? This is why the Marvel films have, in some ways, become hollow. Because everyone fights the same way. And all the women are young.

You cannot convince me that you understand who Wonder Woman is and what she STANDS for while simultaneously shitting on Lois Lane and the 42 year old actress who plays her having a role in this franchise. Those two things are not compatible. If you don’t understand why we NEED Lois then you don’t understand why we need Wonder Woman. Period. End of story. You are suspect and your feminism is a load of shit.

And, FFS, get your heads out of your asses regarding how you treat this actress. She has more beauty, grace, sex appeal, talent and endurance in one pinky than half of the other young white faves you all love to prioritize. Neither she nor Lois has EVER deserved this relentless abuse. They have both earned their place and role in this story. And by the way? Adams just opened a sci-fi movie ON HER OWN a few months ago that made $$$. Do not remotely kid yourself that this franchise and any other future Superman installment doesn’t need her. She puts butts in seats. That’s proven fact. So get real. She’s one of the ONLY proven names in the whole franchise who they KNOW gets people to pay to see a damn movie.

I think that that reason people tend to view Adams as a “nobody” is because she entered the business at an age at which many actresses’ careers start to recede. We’re not prepared to see women over 35 as hot new talents- “hot” being the operative word.

Part of that is hollywood ageism and misogyny, and part of that at 35 you are much harder to commodify because you know better! It’s much easier to take advantage of a 20 year old actress because her sense of self is still developing.

It took her a long time to get to this point and nobody appreciates what it took to get there or how huge she actually is because she didn’t take the typical rocket-to-fame path we can recognize.
