Marvel is better when it comes to numbers of recognizable female characters, LGBT characters, AND characters of color. They actually put in their company policy that hiring diverse writers is important and that telling stories about diverse characters is important.

As a queer woc, I’m getting sick and tired of Marvel fanatics acting like Marvel’s bare minimum is good enough, because it’s not.
The DCEU has a Polynesian Aquaman, a Jewish Wonder Woman, a Jewish Flash, and Cyborg who was always black.
The MCU took eight years to become more noticeably inclusive while it only took the DCEU three years to become obviously inclusive. It’s okay to criticize DC and the DCEU for its flaws, but don’t you dare act like Marvel and the MCU have been champions of diversity and DC and the DCEU aren’t doing shit, when they’ve been doing so much more.
Once again, an opportunistic post intended to slam DC shows up on tumblr and people eat it up without regard for reason or context because why should those boring things matter, if they don’t add to the “DC is the devil” narrative you have going on? Well let’s tackle the stupidity and ignorance of this post shall we:
Black Lightning was the first original black superhero with lightning powers at DC, his popularity caused lots of other comic book companies to scramble and start creating lightning based black superheroes. Most black lightning based superheroes are direct copies of this guy right here.
Black Vulcan was created for the Super friends cartoon series as a stand in for Black Lightning, who could not be used in the show, due to licencing disputes with his creator. Therefore, he’s by all means a suspiciously similar substitute, Black Lightning by any other name.
Static wasn’t original a DC comics character, he was created for Milestone Comics by (though not solely) THE Dwayne McDuffie as a more contemporary idea on the appeal of the Spider-man character over at Marvel Comics. When Milestone Comics (an independent imprint of DC, which focused on trying to bring diversity to comics) folded up, Dwayne saved him by transferring him to DC and getting him the Static Shock Animated Series, which helped make him very popular and a mainstay at DC. Soul Power made an appearance in that same Static Shock Animated Series which McDuffie was heavily involved in, in fact, such unabashed characters are right up his alley.
Black Power is an evil alternate version of either Static or Black Lightning, maybe even Soul Power considering his name and look. He’s from a world of evil counterparts of DC’s main heroes and good counterparts of their villains in the animated movie, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, written by surprise, surprise, Dwayne McDuffie.
Juice was deliberately created to be an expy of Black Vulcan, who was himself, an expy of Black Lightning. He was among a team of genetically engineered meta humans called the Ultimen (based on hero characters from the super friends cartoon because remember, Black Vulcan was in Super Friends to replace Black Lightning) in the Justice League Unlimited Series, written by… Dwayne McDuffie. Sensing a pattern, yet?
Shango is an adaptation of the Yoruba diety, Sango, in the DC Verse, basically we’re talking a being like Marvel’s Norse God based Thor, walking among Earth heroes in DC. I would go into Thunderfall but I won’t, there’s not much on him and I believe I’ve made my point, which is this post is garbage, stupid, opportunistic and only brainless yaks would buy into its ridiculousness. I’m sorry that your superiority complexes got so bad, your critical thinking skills literally stop whenever you think you have a one percent chance of gloating over DC or its fanbase.
Imagine acting like this are all the black heroes DC has, what about Cyborg, Steel, Firestorm, Val-Zod, Mister Terrific, John Stewart, Bronze Tiger, Kaldur'rahm, Luke Fox, etc? Seriously, I could easily make the same post, call Marvel misogynist, upload pics of Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, Anya Corazon, Silk and Gwen Stacy and thereby, claim that all Marvel superheroines are spider based because they’re all a bunch of same brained unimaginative hacks. Know what that would make me? No different from the OP who made this garbage. This post was dead on arrival from the first pic but it’s not too late, you can still use your brains and delete your endorsement of this post, or you can keep your critical thinking skills turned off, and claim I’m wrong because yeah, we live in that world. If you want to use poc representation as a blunt tool of attack? Make sure you’re not a steaming pile, first. The tool would just slip through your crappy fingers.
