I get I can be considered extreme. It’s not the way I see it. I genuinely began disliking the MCU after Age of Ultron. Their issues became very transparent to me. It was a deeply upsetting time that pretty much set the rift between me and the MCU. So my dislike of them began way before BVS and Suicide Squad and Justice League. I used to limit my MCU reblogs to clintasha and Hawkeye. Now it’s barely any of that. Tbh the only Marvel that goes on this blog are X-Men.
Also: the DCEU is completely separate from every DC movie that came out. The DCEU =\= DCCU. DCCU era ended/continuity with TDK trilogy. DCEU is brand new. It began with Man of Steel in 2013. So yes, DCEU is starting out vastly diverse unlike Marvel. Who it took like 20 movies to decide pocs exist and should have real roles.
I wouldn’t be this extreme or defensive if I was able to enjoy DCEU/DC without MCU stans climbing down my throat. Or without seeing mindless negativity from them in every part of the internet. I’ve made solely DCEU positive posts and almost every single time a random salty Marvel stan(s) invades the post. Plus there’s the never ending “on your left DC” gag that refuses to die.
Why is it that the Batman v Superman tag, or p much any DCEU tag is more cluttered with hate and wank from MCU stans? Every day I see MCU stans left and right coming up with convoluted reasons why a DCEU movie is horrible and shouldn’t be supported. As though anyone asked. I can’t ever find a DCEU gifset without hate from MCU stans on it. That’s what makes me extremely angry.
No, DC isn’t perfect. I don’t pretend they are, never have. But at least the DCEU are actively taking risks despite Hollywood shaming them for it. I’m glad they’re stressing the importance of their women and allowing diversity in body type, age, ethnicity, and looks. The MCU would never allow canon blue eyed Wonder Woman to be played by a brown skin brown eyed Isareli woman. The MCU would never racebend 50% of their cast per movie to make sure pocs have a chance to shine, to make sure us poc fans can see ourselves onscreen. I’m glad they’re giving new ideas a chance instead of playing it safe.
Marvel is rewarded for the same movie every time. They whitewash their Jews and Asians and turn their Jews into neo-n*zis. Their black characters are expendable to them. Maria Hill is canonically Spanish but a white woman portrays her and even then, Maria is barely in the movie. “Diversity doesn’t matter” whenever people get stoked about Suicide Squad and Justice League being 50% pocs instead of all white but the moment Spiderman Homecoming’s cast is announced, suddenly diversity matters to MCU stans? I’ve seen MCU stans literally say “poc don’t matter, the movie sucks”. For DCEU films that haven’t even come out yet.
MCU’s female characters get lines depending on which male they’re propping up or being set up with romantically. The cast don’t even respect their women. Scarlett gets the pass because Sebastian, Chris, Anthony, and even Jeremy all wanna “kiss her”. It’s 2016 and MCU is still casting white people to play Asian/Asian-esque characters (Gamke, Strange, Rand) and the one woman of color we had had like 2 lines and is dead and forgotten.
After AOU it became very apparent to me that the MCU refuses to change. And they don’t want to change. They don’t really care about representation or even their audience. All they want is their money. Their films are more and more akin to 2hr long advertisements for their next 2hr long advertisement. It’s more of a business than entertainment the way it used to be during Phase One.
So no, the DCEU isn’t absolutely perfect, but it’s nowhere near MCU’s levels of problematic. You can enjoy your Avengers and your Bucky. Really, you can, even at the expense of the deeper issues. None of it has to matter if the movie is “fun” right? No one is stopping you. And in the same hand, I’m allowed to be excited and happy for the good of the DCEU which vastly outweighs the bad or messy and I’m allowed to be upset at the hate from MCU stans who refuse to stay in their lane. Prerogatives.
It’s ridiculous that people get angry at me or any other DC fan for being happy and excited. I got hella anons telling me “so what, DC sucks” “marvel is better” and some racist remarks I won’t even repeat. And this genuinely occurs every time new DC news comes out and fans get excited. Almost all DCEU blogs I follow have gotten similar messages from MCU stans. How am I not supposed to have an “extreme” reaction to that.
I try to be respectful by tagging this stuff appropriately. I tag as “anti mcu” and “anti mcu fandom” I’ve even limited my MCU wank out of consideration. I genuinely despise Marvel vs DC discourse. On a genuine level, I abhor it. And if you notice my posts mostly criticize the MCU, it doesn’t compare them to the DCEU or bring up DC in any way.
I’m gonna get upset when Marvel blogs spread false lies about DCEU films, saying Etta Candy is in a fat suit and “dc is fatphobic” to turn people against seeing Wonder Woman, and I’m gonna be upset when Marvel stans shame Harley Quinn, a mentally ill character, for acting mentally ill but overlooking GoTG’s ableism at the same time. I’m gonna be upset seeing them purposefully tag their hate to make sure fans see it.
My love for the DCEU =\= my current disdain for the MCU. I’ve waited my entire life, literally, to see these characters come to life. And there are too many MCU blogs who set out to make sure DCEU fans/movies get hate. Far too many dedicated to sabotaging DCEU-positive posts or pretty much anything DC-related. I apologize for making anyone feel bad, I’m not a mean or intentionally wicked person. But I won’t apologize for my justified reaction. With that being said, have a nice day.
