Johnny Depp used to carry around his Jack Sparrow costume and visit sick children in the hospital. I saw that on Facebook. A lot of people in my dashboard have reblogged that. I don’t know if it’s true, but he seems like a hell of a nice guy, doesn’t he?

There’s plenty of people standing up for him right now, people who know him personally, people he has worked with, people he is friends with. People who say he is an excellent human being.

People see someone who acts nice, who does kind things, who gives money to charity, who maybe has been through some stuff themselves and they say hey, this is an A+ human being, and they put them on this pedestal. And then they’re so surprised when it turns out they’re not.

For what it’s worth, I believe Amber Heard, because I know what charismatic, good-looking, gregarious men can do, but whether I believe her or not, whether we all believe her or not, is not the problem here.

The problem is that people believe that “being a nice guy” who “does nice things” means you can’t beat up your spouse.
