Okay, you know what? This.

This pisses me off. It makes me sad, it makes me upset and disappointed because in absolutely no universe should this movie have gotten such a dreadful rating.
I watched it. I thought it was great but it could have been better, no movie is perfect and much less one as expensive and as big and as anticipated as BvS. I knew that a lot of people were going to be divided over it, because a lot of people have their own interpretations of Superman and Batman (because they’re old af i mean 75+ years of existence??). There were going to be expectations, that much was obvious. But I didn’t expect BvS to be shat on as much and as viciously as it was/is.
I’m not going to say that the critics were all biased Marvel fanbois because I expect they’re not (despite many reviews pointing to the contrary with their tiring and consistent Marvel comparisons that were so far removed from context it was silly), but I do see a lot of “pack mentality” and jumping on the bandwagon to stomp on this movie at the first opportunity.
Complaining it was too “dark” and “humourless” UM HELLO DID YOU SEE THE TRAILERS OR LITERALLY ANY BIT OF MARKETING FOR THIS MOVIE OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS?? You have no excuse for expecting something light and campy, plus: BATMAN IS IN IT. In the comics, Batman hasn’t been light or campy for, oh…AROUND FIFTY YEARS. The same can be said about Superman.
I thought BvS had balls. There were themes that I knew wouldn’t go down well with mainstream audiences but as a comic fan I loved because of the nods it gave to some great comic books (that said, I’m not a fan of Frank Miller so I was uneasy about BvS Batman but my doubts were effectively and delightfully dispelled), easter eggs abounded and sure, I was impatient for the action during the movie’s build-up but boy did it deliver.
I feel like BvS has been unfairly picked apart, it has been analyzed and scrutinized for even the most minor issues, for not following the Marvel movie formula, for “rushing” into the Justice League (no matter that its founders have been around for more than half a century and universally recognized unlike Thor and Ironman etc., who required stand-alone movies so people could know who the fuck they were).
I mean, Age of Ultron got a better reception from critics and I’m sorry if you liked the movie (I mean I was entertained because I love Cap), but it was not a good movie.
And for those bearing arguments such as how critically acclaimed Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was, trying to somehow prove the lack of bias towards DC…this was before the MCU released their successful movie franchise (at least Batman Begins was), so of course a Batman movie released during a time where comic-book movies were only just beginning to gain speed will be happily consumed by audiences.
I don’t know. I’m disappointed that BvS is getting so much shit and not actually deserving it. But the fans give me hope, and the broken box office records do too. We’ll get a Wonder Woman movie (which is more than I can say for Marvel’s Black Widow movie, oh wait there isn’t one? Huh) and another Batman movie (I thought Ben Affleck had gotten the closest to comic-book Batman than any other actor), and Justice League movies!
So yeah.
