asked:
I like moments of silliness in super hero movies, but with Batman a "Marvel" level of silliness where's there's a pun every 2 minutes seems a little... inappropriate? I mean, it's been done, but there are some plot lines like The Killing Joke and A Death in The Family where I don't want to laugh. I want to feel the anguish. I want intense plot line and character depth.
answered:
I agree! There’s nothing wrong with Marvel’s humorous, feel-good tone in their movies (from the ones I’ve seen, anyway) but it doesn’t really fit with Batman unless it’s something light-hearted like The Brave and The Bold. To me Batman’s world should be like Marvel’s Jessica Jones show–dark, unflinching, emotional, and just gritty enough to make the viewer uncomfortable. Even Batman: The Animated Series, a show with a target audience of kids, tackled some pretty heavy subjects.
