unpopular opinion probably but what i’ve seen so far i think this batman world in the DCEU is going to be the best batman world and that ben affleck is going to be the best batman or at least the best “bruce wayne”.

i felt like nolan films didn’t really care about fans, as long as batman was “real” and marketable to a majority, it was okay to strip the batman world down to it’s bare basics. they completely removed batman’s support system, the batfam - even alfred wasn’t the helping hand he usually is in the comics - taking away costumes and drastically altering origin stories so they came off less “comic-booky” (scarecrow’s costume was completely gone, nolan even wanted to get rid of the mask) and creating a love interest that never existed in the comics purely so bruce could have more man-pain later in the films. there was no emphasis on the importance on carrying on the family legacy.

even the tim burton movies (which i love) were very detached from the comics (burton never read them) and the arkham games (which i have an extreme love-hate relationship with) had elements of this kind of stuff in it. now i’m seeing BvS and suicide squad and yes, while they are trying to do the whole, “realism” thing it’s not as over-the-top as the other movies have been. gotham city feels like gotham city, not just chicago with wayne tower stuck in the background. there are parts in both trailers that look ripped directly from the comic books. for once, batman (and the DCEU as a whole) are embracing their roots instead of being embarrassed by them which i LOVE
