Jeremy Irons on bringing a fresh new take to the role of Batman’s butler and father figure, Alfred, in “Batman v Superman”:
“I knew we would be finding a different angle on Alfred, so I thought of him as my own. Alfred has
lived longer than Bruce, and so perhaps has a clearer perspective on
life. He’s a man who can actually do anything if he has to. As well as having been in loco parentis to Bruce, his only remit in life is to protect him. And, as those of
us who have raised children, let alone Batmen, will know, that is quite a
wide remit.”
Among the things Irons reveals: his Alfred does not take residence in
Wayne Manor, which is apparently burnt out, but instead a sleek
lakeside residence; and this Alfred promises to be more “hands-on”, with
a special-ops background hinted at. (x)
