Video games essentially took the role of a stress reducer, a fun-begetter, an outlet of enjoyment. Maybe all the fun we ever needed was being more powerful than we can turn out to be in real life.

EASY. Almost always EASY.
The only game type I play on Normal is RTS, and that is because I like a little bit of challenge in that genre, but nothing that blows me away (I will never touch hard or brutal, no interest). Even that I have no qualms changing to easy should a certain mission become annoying.
Why? Because I don’t play games SPECIFICALLY for the challenge. I never did. Back when I played things like Mario Bros it was to have fun stomping goombas on a weekend. Zelda was all about enjoying the story while I collected rupees and spun slashed stalfos’. The original tomb raider was more like an interactive movie to me. To contrast, I spent twenty minutes on the first Ninja Gaiden before it went right in the trash. You could say this outlook carried over to WoW, which is why people know me as a “filthy casual” since I have no interest in challenge modes or regular raids. I love face-roll heroics. Those were my jam back in WOTLK.
This is not to say one shouldn’t enjoy challenging games. Everyone has a right to enjoy a game how they want, which is why things like difficulty settings exist. All I care about is that people respect my choice to enjoy a game on my terms, rather then be shit-talked like I didn’t “earn” anything because I decided to put my own fun above everything else. Fuck that noise.
Yep - I generally play on the lower difficulty levels myself, too.
I don’t care about achievements, I don’t care about the “challenges” you want to plant before me. Just let me have FUN, that is what matters to me.
I won’t be sitting in front of your game for hours trying to beat a specific part or boss battle - because once it gets frustrating, I may as well play something else. The limited time we have, we rather use to have a good time with, than getting angry and shouty at a stupid videogame.
