How the hell do you get so much in something with so few details? Those candles, one burned out and cold. It burned out a while ago and nobody cared. Those pillows all stacked behind Rei, and the WEARINESS on her face, the shadows under her eyes. Rei hasn’t slept. Rei WON’T sleep, not while Usagi needs her. Which, judging from the tears still on Usagi’s cheeks, she absolutely does. It’s been all night, and if it becomes all day, Rei’s ready for that too.
Has much in this scene changed in hours? I think probably not. But despite its seeming ineffectiveness, the fact that it HAS been hours and they’re both still exactly there is all the proof for how necessary this is. This is what Usagi needs, and this is all Rei can do, and while that may not be enough to fix what’s broken, right now, it’s everything.
