One year ago: Kyiv, Ukraine. 20th February 2014.
Pro-Russian government forces convinced Ukrainians to pull down the barricades for a “National Day of Mourning” for the people already killed in the demonstrations.
But the government lied. Once the Ukrainians pulled down the barricades the President sent in snipers, some of whom were wearing patches identifying them as Russian.
The snipers randomly shot and killed many, many civilians in the capital city’s centre.
The President fled the country and sneaked across the border into Russia.
A few days later Russia invaded Crimea.
