some ideas for La Noche
i actually did a lot of research into aztec goddesses for this one, drawing inspiration in particular from coyolxauhqui (aztec moon goddess), ix chel and mayan moon goddess1. things like the skull at her hip, the jade stone necklace, the face markings and earrings, etc.
i want to explore bigger and fancier headdresses. and maybe some floating planets or stars around her head.
for the color palette i’s gonna do blues and turquoises with white and gold and just a tiny hint of red. i cant decide whether to make her hair white in contrast with la muerte, or stick to dark to make her recognizable as la muerte’s twin.
overall i want la noche to read as more primal and ancient-minded than her spanish-influenced sister. mysterious, sultry, coy, but with a little bit of a bite to her.
unlike la muerte who loves mortals, or xibalba who resents them, i imagine la noche simply doesnt think about them accept as occasional playthings. she enjoys the mysteries her subjects represent, the and the adoration of her worshippers, but she never terribly interested in getting involved in their affairs. she’d much rather gossip about her fellow gods and spirits. she’s very good at glamours and illusions and has gotten her sister in trouble more than once by masquerading as la muerte and teasing her suitors.
random tidbit: instead of swirls in her sugar she’ll have stars, and her dress will dissolve into stars around the bottom.
