The thing that always gets me about Solas is that for a guy who is the actual goddamn Dread Wolf, who is thousands of years old and a certifiable rebel and trickster–an effective trickster–he really wears his heart on his sleeve. Honestly, I keep my emotions to myself way better than this dude; sometimes he’s positively transparent. When he’s angry, you know it. When he’s surprised, he does that little straightening and eyes-widening thing. When he’s enjoying the Winter Palace he just blurts out that ridiculously revealing line about sex and intrigue. His excitement in the Fade, his curiosity about Varric, they’re positively childlike in their openness.
I have plenty of thoughts as to why he’s like that even after all he’s been through, but really the marvel of it to me is that he manages to work with that, that he manages to be subtle and to pull off what he does.
