Yeah, I saw that in your tags about it. Unfortunately, it’ll take more bondage-related deaths to really change anything. People are already misled about D/s relationships, you have Tumblr Doms running rampant on the Internet (they probably think the book and movie are the best thing since sliced bread, tbh), and glorification of what is actually abusive behavior in society. And also unfortunately, those who capture the spirit of the D/s relationship ~properly~ will be drowned out, so when accidental deaths happen, the backlash will fall into the entire community, even though they have screaming all along that they never supported it, it’s a load of bullshit, and that’s not what the lifestyle is about. FSoG is going to be a disaster all around

Peeps at my university are all like “OMG this is so kinky, I need to watch this” or “Damn this book, tho” and whenever I hear someone say that, I turn around, face them and tell them all about how this shit is wrong in every way you can think of. They are often wondering how I know about these things, but I don’t care if they think I’m a part of this community, I just informed myself enough to tell these people that they really shouldn’t waste their time with crap like that. And most people I talked to were negatively surprised when I told them all the stuff I know and were disgusted.

They were even too blind to see that the female protagonist was raped in the first book!! First I thought it might be that the German translation fucked things up, but it was clearly evident there as well!!

People reading this book aren’t fascinated with bdsm, but with rape culture, because that’s exactly what this book is promoting.

And I totally agree with you on the point that there will be people dieing after this movie because some rapist pig will take advantage of these manipulated women.

I mostly fear for young women to be honest, if they already grow up with this image of “it doesn’t matter if there’s no consent from your side” or “if he slaps you you have to endure it”, I really fear for our future as women as it’ll be a catalyst for mysoginy itself…
