“Buck.. did you make this?”
See folks, this here is a fine example of what not to say to someone’s drawing, no matter what it may look like. It could be a two minute doodle of a cat, or it could be Picasso’s Starry Night; You do not, under any circumstances, flat out tell someone their drawing is terrible. It’s one thing to give constructive criticism, because that helps and artist grow and progress with their pieces. But don’t tell someone that their art is horrible. You never know how long they could have worked on it, how long they sat over their piece of paper and erased their work over and over again because they didn’t think that it was good enough. And when they are finally satisfied and confident enough to show people, just think of how heartbreaking it is for the person you felt like you could show it to shoot it down in two seconds flat.
Please, I beg of you- Don’t do what Buck just demonstrated right here. You never know how much it could really crush someone’s self confidence as an artist.
