For those of you that don’t know, Zack Snyder’s mother actually died a few years back. He’s said in interviews that she’s a huge inspiration and how much she meant to him. Whether you like his movies or not, DC fan or Marvel fan, I think we can all agree that shit like this is disgusting.

I saw these tweets this morning and got home ready to chew Lindsay out about how her white feminism, cheap shot humor, and annoyingly pseudo-intellectual hot takes were the reason I stopped watching her videos only to find out the horrible news that Zack’s daughter just died. Seriously, people, he just makes movies you don’t like; there’s never been any indication that he’s a bad person. It shouldn’t take a tragedy for you to realize your insults and “jokes” are shitty.

Justice League is a movie I’ve been waiting for for my entire life so let me make one thing abundantly clear: it literally doesn’t fucking matter right now.

If you are glad Zack had to leave, if you are glad Whedon (who two weeks ago celebrated his own mother being dead) is taking over, if you are glad the movie is delayed, if you give a shit about a movie right now when a man who receives nothing but unjustified hate on a near constant basis has had to stop working out of intense emotional grief, you are literal fucking garbage.

I have already read multiple comments saying they’re glad his daughter is dead. I’ve read people insult him because this is “the first they’re hearing of it” so they don’t believe him. And everybody’s probably read people just celebrating the shift in general by now.

 I don’t subscribe to the idea that the internet is the worst of the worst, there are clearly worse people in the ‘real world’, but it’s really fucking hard to keep that belief when I see people celebrating a human being losing a fight that myself and millions of people have fought. It’s fucking disgusting.

Everything Zack’s done in the past two months suddenly takes on a much sadder meaning. Like, him posting those early pics of Henry testing for the role of Superman in MoS was him trying to remember happier times. Or when he was at CinemaCon all smiles palling around with his cast, that would’ve been just days after it happened.

Movies are futile in comparison to actual life, to actual human beings dealing with grief and loss over something so painfully tragic. Thinking only about the outcome of a movie instead of a director’s loss of a child is incredibly selfish, and you guys don’t deserve to see any movie ever if this is your way of thinking. Zack and Deborah deserve your sympathy, not outrage.

Honestly, if anyone is a fan of  Lindsay Ellis at the moment, then you’re a disgusting person. She waited and saw that Zack Snyder was trending because of his daughter’s suicide and then jumped at the chance to happily talk shit about him (both his personal life and films)

Condolences go out to the Snyder’s. Hope they talk all the time they need to heal. Heartbreaking to hear how long they kept it private and still kept working trying to deliver. Even worse to hear Zack kept it too himself because he felt the internet would try to use it to spin a false narrative. Honestly don’t care much about JL or DCEU at this point. Just home the man and his family are okay.

Irrespective of what you think of his movies, do not gloat on how it is good for the franchise that Zack Snyder has stepped back from the DCEU. It takes very little to show some sympathy. Personally, i am not a huge fan of his vision. But he and his family have my deepest condolences. No parent should have to go through that. I only just heard that his 20 year old daughter committed suicide in March and I am so sorry. He thought he could work through all of that, he had good intentions and a heart of steel and it makes me very very sad that something so terrible has befallen him. I hope he and his family muster the strength to will through this storm together, to heal together.
My heart goes out to them, my thoughts are with them. I can’t imagine what its like, having to outlive your own children, it’s a parent’s worst nightmare. Please don’t be a dick to them. The circumstances are so very devastating. A movie isn’t, in any way, more significant than the catastrophies of actual human lives. So please respect their need for privacy and if you are celebrating Zack Snyder’s decision to step back, you are a vile human being who needs to reevaluate their understanding of the basic courtesy of humanity, you troglodyte.
