If you just see them as an ‘abusive relationship’ then I don’t know what to tell you. There’s probably no changing your mind. But I have spoken at length about how they are so much more. They’ve been described as ‘the most natural ship in comics’ before new 52 came and ruined everything. They are the same. They see the world the same way, they have the same sense of humor, they want the same things, and they are the only two in the world like that. They are meant for each other. Harley was created to be with Joker.
Except people have gotten it into there heads that Harley is some kind of saint, and needs protecting. That is far from the truth. Harley likes being evil, she’s expressed that a lot, she wants to play the same ‘jokes’ on Gotham as Joker does and get the same attention, and she wants to be with Joker more than he wants her. She doesn’t care if he’s wrong for her, it’s what she wants.
It’s easy to look at them and think she’s just a victim to him, but that’s not true. We see an abusive relationship and think it’s horrible, and because we relate to Harley so much she must see it that way too. But she doesn’t. In her mind violence and death are just ‘jokes’. She doesn’t take them seriously. She doesn’t view them the same way we do. She and Joker live in a mindset that if she pulls a gun on him, pulls the trigger, and it doesn’t work, you can just give him a cheeky smile and he’ll take you back a second later. And that really happened between them. So Harley doesn’t see the abuse as this horrible thing and neither does Joker. The abuse is completely consensual on both parts. I don’t know how much I need to say this. They know the other’s ‘limits’, or more accurately, ‘lack of limits’. I know a lot of fans of hers want her safe, protected, loved, respected, ect, but that’s not what she wants. She wants exactly what she has. She wants Joker more than anything and she’s got him.
I feel like we can shout this every hour on the hour for a decade and people still will ask “But why do you support the abuse????”
Being a nice person is so fun
Waiter messes something up? You can see the relief on their faces when you don’t scream and swear at them about it
Extra tickets at an arcade/prize place? Watch a little kid’s face light up when you give them a bunch of tickets
There are too many assholes in this world. Be a nice person.
when you’re in your twenties and start to realize how young the protagonists of the novels you read are:

And at some point the protagonist goes,

And you just go,
