@maplejustice:

Harley Quinn is a woman who dropped a fight when she figured out Black Canary was pregnant and sat and talked with her and visited her in the hospital with baby gifts.

She is a woman with a doctorate degree who can break into Arkham with only a handful of objects, something no other Batman villain can do.

She’s a woman who knows she’s been abused and is working past it.

She’s a woman who called Dr Fate on his shit because “some of us went to school and earned that title”.

Doctor Harleen Quinzel is a complex character who is probably going to be reduced to Shooting Sex Toy in Suicide Squad and nothing makes me more disappointed.

Harley Quinn is a woman who helped to psychologically torture a young child with the Joker and happily went along with it.

She is one of many doctorate degree holding Batman villains (Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Man-Bat, Mr. Freeze, and Hush just to name a few) and one of even more villains who break out of an asylum with mediocre security on a regular basis.

She’s a woman who willingly joined a known murderous sociopath and also suffered occasional physical, verbal, and emotional abuse from not only from him, but also an unstable misanthrope. (It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t happen now. It still happened.)

She’s a woman who has possibly slept with some of her professors to improve her grades or at very least used some other questionable methods to attain her degree, originally only to gain fame from a tell-all book about one of the high-profile patients.

Harley Quinn is a complex villain who, for all the good she has done, has (often unapologetically) committed some rather reprehensible actions and is continually watered down by certain fans to an ultimately good-natured abuse victim who got trapped in a life of crime when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

And that’s the real disappointment.
