You taught me, you showed me, you encouraged me – you never lied to me and you never demanded that I be anything I'm not. I didn’t imitate you because you insisted that I do so, but because I wanted to. Of all the men I knew, you were most worthy of imitation. You and Alfred gave me a home and you gave me what we don’t mention. The L word. You were the best family I could have had.

Okay so everyone is complaining that Harley’s characterization is “so off” and “so OOC” and I’m like…where? People are accusing DC of making her this “quirky edgy” girl and it’s like, have you SEEN Harley? I’m sorry but she’s the epitome of quirky. I think you just notice it more when it’s being performed by a real actress. This is the girl who wears skates in a mall, carries around a stuffed beaver (if we’re including the New 52 here), bought hundreds of parakeets just so she could set them free. Harley prides herself in being “quirky”. I mean, she’s like that to a degree just as a person, but also plays it up big time.
People need to understand that a lot of what Harley does, she does for the crowd. Some of that comes from her, and also I think a lot of it was learned from Joker who always stressed the importance of “putting on a show”. A lot of times, someone will get one on one with Harley and be taken aback/confused by her starting an intelligent conversation and actually being relatively calm. Yes she still says quirky things, but it’s dialed WAY back when there’s no crowd to play to.
Like I said, I think people are put off by seeing Harley’s mannerisms on a real person and not on a cartoon. And I get why. It’s very reminiscent of that middle schooler who says edgy things to try to get a rise out of people and it evokes that “Ick…God…2edgy4me” reaction. But pick up any Harley comic and perform it live, and you’ll get the same feeling. I think they’re doing a great job so far. I wish people would stop giving up on movies after seeing less than 5 minutes of random clips. Don’t judge a movie by it’s trailer (much).
