A Difference in Experience
Myself watching the opening of Batman v Superman for the fourth time:
“I love that Thomas Wayne accidentally provokes Joe Chill into shooting him by trying to attack first, setting up the idea that preemptive aggression does way more harm than good. And I wonder if the casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan was just a fun Easter egg for the people who saw Watchmen, or if there’s a deliberate statement in having Bruce Wayne descend from an amoral burn-out like The Comedian? And oh hey, the Mark of Zorro posters finally make it into a movie, which frames Batman’s primary source for theatricality and for branding his enemies (since Superman wasn’t there yet and the Shadow doesn’t exist in the DCU), and how cool is it that the ad on the marquee for Excalibur not only gives us an exact year for the Waynes’ death, but also teases the allusions to La Morte D’Arthur that come later in the film? And the fact that it segues straight into the first surreal dream sequence sets up Bruce as an unreliable narrator before he even speaks. And I *know* I’m missing more that’s going on here…..”
Everyone else I know who saw the movie:
“UGGGGH WHY ARE THEY KILLING BATMAN’S PARENTS AGAIN THIS IS STUPID.”
…..I feel like I’m apparently watching movies wrong.
So I taught myself to rotoscope.
@rigormorton32 wanted angry kiss. All too happy to oblige.
